REAL discussion on R Gruppe (or not) Track day

I am reposting here as the other thread seems to have gone WAY OT.

Given all the discussion and Roger's posting on speed events, road driving, etc etc- can we use this thread as a survey on who would like to participate in a track event in Treffen 07 as a separate (or) NOT affiliated with R gruppe day?
Ideas revolve around one day at a convenient location for
    a) slalom autocross type of event
    b) driver education seminars conducted by experts/ manufacturer involvement
    c) track type event ? parking lot? regional airport tarmac?
    d) professional track workers and safety support crew to help ensure a well run event whether track of parking lot
    e) timing for the advanced entrants only- no times released on novice groups
    f) how far to drive from Treffen HQ ?

    Let the discussion begin

Would you participate ? Which type of event would interest you most? 1st choice, 2nd choice?

Would non-R Gruppe members be able to participate?

    Just wondering...

depending on the powers to be at R Gruppe IF they wanted this to be their event.
Even still, i cannot imagine the expense of a full one day event with seminars, cones set up/take down, all the logistics without the involvement and support of a local PCA region and /or NASA . For this reason alone, they could very well have non R Gruppe run and classroom sessions.

I am trying to foster open discussion on what would be attractive to us Porsche owners to participate in an event that may (or may not) be part of the R Gruppe weekend

    I am in.

    I would participate.

After being at the event, allot of the cars are not really set up for a track/auto-cross type gathering. I guess if people did not want to run in the events they could be spectators. It would be just like the parking lot at the hotel with great sounds coming from the track. I think it is a great idea.

    Great idea Dave...

With this group, if it's to local to SoCal, I would suggest the 'Streets of Willow' ... perhaps on a week day to keep expense down ...

I think it's faster, safer, and more technical, demanding more car control then any other venue around...

    My .02

... any help you need with what ever is desided please let me know

    Cheers,

    They're Porsches!

... drive your new Porshe from the dealership to the track. Do a few runs then head home to pick up the wife to take her out to a fancy restaurant.
... at least I think that was Porsche's ad campaign in the 60's / 70's

    Hi Dave,

I agree with Chuck. I have not been to the "Streets of Willow", but from what I understand it combines both autocross type turns and reasonably fast sections. Probably the best venue for all concerned in terms of seat time and a variety of car control situations. If the event ends up being close by the site chosen, I'm in.

I think you are correct....wasn't that the slant...or msg of the early ad campaigns here in the USA back in the day?

I would agree that a good chunk of the 'Gruppe's members cars are set up for, and rightly so, "sports purpose, performance street driving" Heck, Nuttin' wrong with that !! fun-fun-fun!!! 'fo sure.
Which is a lot different than a more dedicated track oriented suspension setup...for example, I know my car has, ummm...shall we say "a wee-bit harsh" ride on the street.. ....but I intentionally made what I wanted, and I like what I made...no regrets.

Anyway, Kind of in line with the original Porsche ad campaigns of the 60's & early 70's...Here's a few shots of my wife, Gloria in here Bone Stock '72T as delivered from the factory, with only about 23k mi. at the time of the photo last year...doing an Autocross the day after she graduated from the local PCA "Performance Driving School"....and winning a 1st in class ribbon.

...And shortly after accepting her award she got back in her stock '72T and drove 95 miles back home.....
