Thread: What function has this hose?

    What function has this hose?

While working on the alternator, fan and housing I checked that all the different hoses and wires was properly connected. Some where a bit loose (I think they where vacuum hoses) and one other hose was not attached at all. The only place the hose could reach was a point under the air box, and I am quite sure that is where it is supposed to be connected, can anyone confirm this and tell me what this hose is for? The hose and connection point is shown in the photo(after it has been reconnected)

I believe it is an oil drain. There is a metal tube with a rubber valve mounted to the oil cooler (behind the engine sheet metal). I can post a pic if needed

I may be in left field but I think it has something to do with the charcoal filter/venting system since there are lines running through the tunnel of the car going to the front. As you need air movement this would make sense since air would be pushed through the tube. I've been away from my MFI car too long and cannot recall exactly where it went but something struck me when I saw the photo.

If not, it's a damn drain.

    Best,

    Tom

You sure made me laugh with that one Tom. I like your logic.

2nd the drain if it's attached to the bottom of the plenum.

It IS DEFINITELY a damn drain for the oil that is "breathed" into the airbox. If you really beat the snot out of the motor and you have a full tank of oil, sometimes you'll see a drip or two under the car if you park it while it's hot ... this is from the airbox draining.

Edit: The nipple on the back of the airbox that point to the driver's side when installed is the one for the charcoal canister.
