There was a dark navy blue for the late 80's Carreras. The was also a very beautiful "midnight blue" that looked carbon in daylight and black otherwise. I think it was available for 964/993's. Of course, then there's "paint to sample".

John,
Try this... a few period dark blues to choose...

I wouldn't suggest it .... but.... If you don't mind not being period specific, one of the richest dark blues was a color shared by Porsche and Mercedes in the 80's, and other German makers before that. It's simply called Dunkelblau (Dark Blue)
The only example I could pull off the net is of a little model NSU... but the color is right...
Hope this helps...

originally my car was silver. the guy i bought it from had a pretty bad coat of black put over it...... so its currently black.
silver is nice but i dont think it shows off the chrome and targa bar like a darker color does.
and black..... i know the old beetles were black and black was on original color but the popularity of black cars in the '80s makes black seem wroing for an early '70s car........ in my head that is.
so i think a dark blue would be really pretty with the crome and the black targa top.
Silver would have been special order, right?
It would be very, very hard for me to paint it another color than that considering how you only do it once every 20 years or so.

8010 silver metallic was a standard color, not special order.
my RS rep was painted 964/993 midnght blue by the previous owner - here's some pics:

the orange really brightened things up but i'm in the process of changing the wheel centres and stripes to silver for a more period look.
