Through the Grill Fog lights on ebay

I had not idea how to price these but saw a lot of talk about them on this forum. I figured an auction was the best way to find out what the market was. Not perfect but nice used.

I sold a set a while back, but it had all the wiring back to and including the switch. My grilles were fairly pitted.

You're right that talk is a poor guide to value.

This'll be an interesting auction to watch.

Are the brackets originals or repros? The lights are period Hella aftermarket and are of the same "118" type but, not Porsche factory supplied. The grills look nice. Without being able to see the reflectors easily I can't tell if the bulbs are hooded or not. Could be the reflectors are the same and one lense has been replaced. More likely they are now as they were bought, an aftermarket set. This is how they were commonly sold. One fog, one driving. Often used with a three way switch to either illuminate one in a long range driving situation or the other in close range fog.

    They are both hooded.

I don't know if the brackets are original or not, how would you tell?

Originals are usually rusty! Maybe by guage of the stock although I've never had an original set to compare. Maybe by the bolt head markings?

On the swivel bracket... is the nut for the cheese head bolt welded onto the bracket or is it separate? More of a general question I have about the factory supplied stuff.

I know of a 72 I could take apart all day long to catalog this kind of stuff but, I hear those PNW guys pack more heat than even this Illinois boy is used to. Only so much my Sweet Sixteen can handle, even with deer slugs.

The gauge of the metal in the repro's has been both lighter than oe, and also slightly heavier than oe, so that might not be much help. What I can say is that by comparison...the OE just "looked OE"...not much help am I..
