Thread: Gold/platinum RS pictures ?

    Gold/platinum RS pictures ?

A request for the photo pack-rats here (I include myself in that group but have none of that car color).

I will be backdating a platinum 83 SC to 73RS-look, and the bill for painting fenders, hood and bumpers is a lot cheaper than repainting an entire car ! It's not my favorite color but it's not as controversial as, say sepia brown ;-) I could have sworn I saw a platinum/light gold 73RS picture somewhere but cannot find it.. Got any ?

I need to show my wife what it'd look like, then she'll grundingly approve or if not let me repaint it !!! ;-) Thanks !

PS: a photo of a basic pre-74 in platinum will help too, even if not RS !

    Greg:

According to the data I have, Exterior Color No. 655 Platinum Metallic was first offered as a special color on the 911SC 'A' program, produced from August 1979 until July 1980. As best I can tell, no Porsche prior to that would have come from the factory in that color.

In 1973, the only Gold offered was No. 8888 Gold Metallic (sometimes referred to as No. 144) One of the best places to see photos of Early 911s in every color is here www.early911s.com Click "911 Gallery" and sort by color. Placing your mouse over any photo should provide the color, year, etc.

Not an RS, but a '73S in Gold Metallic is pictured below......

    Platinum

A few years ago G&W had a platinum colored 1973 911-T that had virtually no mileage on it. It was a former PCA Natl. concours level car. It was a special order paint.
The color reminded me of "Sand Beige" that the Weissach cars had applied to them if they were not the dark metallic gray.
This was a CIS car with 7's all around with Michelin XWX's. The paint was perfect. The engine compartment was spectacular as was the interior.
I'll dig out a photo when I get home.

I have just purchessed a 911T roller. Very sound car the only rust I have been able to find is in the front pan. But it was the very faded gold. Spent last week trying to decide what colar to repaint it, then I saw the gold Rs replica on ebay. Very hot looking car. I belive it might repaint in the orignal gold, A lot less work anyway.
