Why do some early 911 seats have RECARO on the knobs and some don't? I have seen both, some with plain round knobs, some with square-ish knobs, and then some that have that RE CA RO logo on them.
Anybody know the key to this?

They should all have "Recaro" knobs normally. Maybe early 356 Recaro seats did not have this, otherwise I think they should...

The history is certainly interesting, but this still doesn't shed any light on the differences (if any) of seats that have 2 round knobs with the word RECARO on the ends are any different than the seats that have squared off knobs with no inscription. There are plenty of early 911 seats I've seen that don't say RECARO on the knobs.
Anybody have any clues?

swbsam and eric linden would probably be the best sources as to years and differences of the seats. We call Sam the "super secret sport seat police" due to his research and pix on the many variations

Generally, I have found "recaro" on the sport seats, and a mix of "recaro" and non scripted on the stock seats... I haven't bothered trying to document, as that was a little too much minutia... but what the heck, I'll look into it a little further. If I find anything consistent, I'll let you all know.

might be like battery mfg.s same battery but when they are put in as OE the car mfg. has their label affixed. maybe Porsche just said to Recaro give us a plain knob instead of Recaro knob when we install as OE

I am wondering about this also. I have a couple unlabeled knobs as well as the Recaro type. I like the Recaro script it is way cool.
