My '67 SWB has hood mounted Cibies and as a result the hood shocks are inadequate to hold up the hood. I'd like to install a hood prop and would like it to be simple and cool and with no holes drilled in the hood.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
John

Even better, does anyone have a source for stronger struts? I know they were an option when the Cibies were installed by the factory. I'd have to assume that some other OEM strut could do the trick.
I am getting sick of using my squeegee as a prop.![]()

John,
I don't like gas struts because they always wear out after a year despite the claims of the manufacturers. Also, big struts will cause a water leak at the trailing edge of the trunk lid.
The most elegant solution I've seen came on the 964 cup cars-- it was a piece of aluminum rod attached about halfway down the inside trunklid on the starboard side of the car that swung out and had the end sharpened so it could fit inside the cup for the monoball. There was also a spring steel clip toward the rear of the hood so when it was not in use, it could be clipped to the hood.
I wonder if someone with a 964 cup could post a picture of the hood prop, it was the best, lightest and strongest solution i've seen.

I found a 20 foot shot. This is, obviously, a 993 cup and it's on the other side but you get the idea. Photo credit www.cupcar.net

Hello
lightweight '73 rs's and also the 964 RS have an aluminium "pin" (I dont know the exact name in english) to hold up the hood. It is a genuine porsche part and still available new from porsche.
K.
ok, while I was searching for a picture that I did not find, 304065 came up with the same item. This part is still available at porsche and not that expensive. I have one lying somewhere in my garage, but have not used it yet, since my shocks are still doing a great job :-)
i've got the 964RS setup and its great. its also very intuitive for other people propping the hood. you will need to drill a couple of holes though.
another cool option is the carbon fibre prop from seine systems

What about the product our very own Sherwood offers? I have one and it works great but I don't have Cibies.
