Thread: front cooler lines ?

    front cooler lines ?

I've heard that some cars have the front cooler lines go through the rocker. Is this true of long hoods or impact bumper cars, or SCs?

Early cars, up through '71 I believe at which point they went under the rocker.

I thought all longhood's ("esses") had the oil lines through the rockers? I don't have an S...

The impact-bumpers came with a large rocker molding. So, instead of going through the rocker; the lines are just hidden by the large rocker covers and therefore run underneath.

Here are some diagrams from the FSM; the '72 does not show any jack receiver; '73 looks as if the lines goe under and jack receiver as does the '74 on....

Funny the 72 photo shows a radiator cooler and 73 onward shows a trombone. I Thought all coolers were trombone style back then?

So the followup question is...... if my 69 has no front cooler now, and I don't want to have lines running below the chassis, Is it recommended to cut into the rockers and run hoses through?

If so, do I need 73 and earlier hoses only, or can later hoses be threaded through the rocker?

joet, my 69S has the oil lines running through the rockers. It's the first year the S cars came with a front cooler. I have never been inside the rockers but what is visible are hard lines. I doubt you could run hards lines without tearing everything apart but installing some Earl's or Aeroquip would be a viable alternative.

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.
