RS Clone Article in Vintage Motorsport

Great article(s) that profiles five of our favorite cars, as well as the real deal RS and RSR. Nice work guys! Cool issue overall.

Apologies if this has already been discussed...

    Hey Brad,

I subscribe to VM and I'm not sure of the articles you're referring to...

    Maybe it's the next issue...

Can you tell us the issue No. ....

BTW - I just picked up the new 911 and Porsche World that has Mark Waring's ST clone and lots-o-cool stuff...

    Cheers,

    Classic Motorsports Magazine

Chuck, the magazine is Classic Motorsports. July issue, at newstands now.

Thats Will Sanchez's RS and Rob Dickinson's 911 on the cover.

The article started out as a compare/contrast a real '73 RS vs. the many type of "clones" Several S Registry/R Gruppe members went to Streets of Willow for the Track Day.

The event was sponsered by Classic Motorsports and Pelican Parts' Wayne Dempsey. Along with my car, Jack Olsen, Wayne, Rob Dickinson, and Eade Hopkinson, brought their versions.

None of the cars were really "pushed", by the author Tim Suddard, on the track. He had a lot of respect for the cars, and the fact that they were not his to push. We pushed them, had a great time at Willow. Thanks again to Tim and Wayne for setting it up.

Jack also wrote an article for the magazine on building a RS Replica.

Overall, a GREAT time was had by everyone.

That's the one, sorry for the confusion.

Funny that even though there are references in almost every photo, the was no mention of the gruppe. Obviously not necessary, just curious... Great to see these cars in print!

It was cool to see all those cars (most of which we've heard of in pelican's forum), and to see Wayne Dempsey's goofy grin, but I thought the article was dissapointing actually.... Very little info on each car overall... I think Excellence would have done a much better job with the same lineup !

I agree. I think my problem was the premise implied was directly comparing a couple of well built RS clones with an original at a track. Since a lot of the allure of an original RS is in the un-quantifiable aspects, it would have been interesting to get both the #s and the "feel." We didn't really get this. It's never a bad thing to have cool P-cars featured in a magazine, but I was left wanting a lot more.

    Ray,

Great article and great cars. I like each one for their individuality. I came very close to sealing a deal on a car exactly like Wayne's. Rob's is just way too cool. Eade's car is just stunning and the real RS... wow, 'nuf said.

And your Black S with red interior and superlites - that is sweet. I have a silver R Gruppe style car that I purchased from a SoCal fellow that you might know and it has two black Recaro buckets like your driver's seat. I have always liked the silver/red and black/red combo and when I saw that seat in red, I nearly had an accident in my pants. Someday when I grow up, I want to be like you and am going to put red seats and door panels in my car. Very, very nice. Thanks for sharing your car with us.
