Is there any way to link a particular engine number to the car it came from the factory with (by VIN number) or vice versa? I have a 2.2 liter 911S motor, #6301220 and would like to identify and chassis it came from.
Thanks,
JB

Its very difficult to find out. In 1970 2473 S-coupe and S-Targas where made, chassis numbers for coupes 9110300001-9110301744 and for Targas9110310001-9110310729. 2480 S-engines where made in 1970. The S-engines where numbered from 6300001-6302480, the enginenumber where the same for coupes and Targas. If your engine is number 1220 its in the middle of the production and will therefor be in the range of the middle chassis numbers for coupes 800-900 or targas 300-400.
My 73 S has chassis 437 of 1430 coupes. If I add the targas made 925, I get 2355 S cars made. My original engine number ends with 707. I know 2231 S engines + 136 S sporto engines where made. If you calculate approx. how many Targas where made when my chassis 437 was made, and add them together, its very close to engine number 707. And I know the 707 engine is the correct one for the car from the factory.
members with enginenumbers close to yours, and who gives you also their chassis numbers, will narrow the gap.

JB,
As a member of this club you get a roster every year of all the member's cars with their chassis numbers and engine numbers (and any other information the owner is willing to give) in sequence of years and type....... it's a VERY useful tool indeed... some think well worth the membership...![]()
This list would get you pretty close...
Hope this helps,

I think you are asking if you can get a COA from Porsche with the engine number that would verify the chasis number. I think you will have to ask Porsche that because they normally do the COA based on the chasis number, which then confirms the engine number and maybe trans. number along with options. You are asking for sort of a reverse look up if you will and I am not sure if Porsche will send you the COA based on an engine number verifying the chasis number.
