How Many US '72T Coupes Made?

All my books show the total to be 2931. I have one that is 3321, what's up?

Well that is pretty strange. All my reference books also list 2,931 for E series US coupes. The only series that fits the production # of 3,321 would be C series T Karmann coupes (4,126) or D series US T coupes (3,476). The '73 US CIS coupes have VIN # of XXXXXX1501-3444. Are you sure the VIN on your car is 9112103321?

I see you replied on my post on Pelican too. I took off the knee pad and you were correct. The first 3 digits are 102, then an oblong/oval hole like the one the knee pad bolt went thru, and then the numbers 32. It almost looks like there were 2 digits were the hole was. I will take photos of all numbers tomorrow and post them for you if this is something special. If it's just some past crook number swapping, then that's OK as I can always get out of it what I paid for it.

Now this is getting interesting. You probably have a '72 coupe body based on 102XX32.

Yes, could you post photos of the AL VIN tag, stamped trunk VIN #, A pillar VIN if present, and the dash pad #. Thanks.

I finally had the guts to call Porsche of America today and talk to the COA ladies. Ends up that this chassis number is in the system. It is a real car! There are no engine/trani types or serial numbers available - not even any options listed. They just had the name of one of the prior owners from 1996 -1999. He is an insurance agent from Minnesota with the first name "Doug".

    Here are some photos...

Both the chassis stamp and the A pillar tag look like stamp overs judging from the impressions in the surrounding metal on both. Can't see the VIN plate well enough to tell though the threes look funky. Maybe I'm already biased by what I think of the other two. Closer shots are warrented but, can you see any evidence of numbers under the "33" which look like the only changes to me.

Spoke last night with the owner Porsche had given me. He bought the car as it is now. He was not aware of anything funny with the numbers. He purchased it from his local VW dealer who had it from a Douglas Mook in Galesburg, Illinois. All paperwork and titles from these transactions have this VIN. I have copies in the records.

He did comment on how professional the body modifications were done.

    No answers. Sorry.
