Thread: Learned a wheel fitment lesson.

  1. #1

    Learned a wheel fitment lesson.

Now I know why 7R wheels are priced like gold. Bought a pair of used 7" replicas just to try the fit on my 70T and really hate the overstuffed fender look with 205/55. Luckily I didn't buy four wheels and tires or I'd be really ticked.

I can only assume that real 7" Fuchs have slightly different offsets/backspacing because I have seen pics that don't look quite so stuffed as these.

These are original Fuchs 7" 205/55 on my 73S. They dont seem to protrude as much as your in the pic you have posted? These 7" are not the same as the very special 7R wheel. The 7R wheel is the exact same as the deep six, but with a larger impress of 41mm. A 7R and a deep six look the same seen from the side of the car. Its only from the rear you can see it is wider(towards the engine)

    John,
Yes, we exchanged some emails on the wheel and tire issue. The 7s on your car is the look I was after. Guess I'll be hanging out on ebay looking for real Fuchs.

Thats right ulrich, I must be getting alzheimers.... Have you asked about the real width of different 205/55's brands, because there is quite a big difference between the differnet brands.

I checked various websites (Yoko, Falken, Kumho, etc.) and went with a single Kumho that the local Discount Tire had sitting around. I have an old 195/60/15 tire I will test mount just to see the difference.

Like I said the money involved so far has been minimal.

Talk to Harvey Weidman in Oroville, CA. He will prove to you that you can fit a 225/50 under the rear of a narrow body with stock flares (and not look overstuffed). Just be prepared to offer your firstborn child in trade. I already have and will be getting mine in December.

    And on the front

    Hi Eric,

Are those deep sixes. Do you have the same-sized tires front and rear? Did you have to roll the fenders and if so, just the rears? Thanks.

PS I've got the potential for the same set-up if I decide to unbox my Harvey wheels.
