SCM report on a '68S sold at Gooding in Monterey

Here is an interesting report on a nice car that sold at the Monterey Gooding auction back in August. I saw this car in person and it was mostly correct so I was a bit surprised the sale price was a bit below the pre-sale estimate.

Notice the SCM market guide price for these cars.

    911S at auction

It's true, it could/should have made more...strange that in the current market a 911S doesn't make more at such an auction venue....

    Color

If it were Tangerine or Viper Green, add 20-30%. Just my opinion. For whatever reason, Red seems to 'devalue' these cars.

Did anyone actually lay eyes on it? Was it really that nice?

Yeah I was able to view the car the day before the auction. I didn't do a real through inspection but I did look if over pretty well and aside from a few minor details, I thought it was a real nice 2+ condition car.

I like the last couple lines in the auction description written in the current edition SCM magazine on this car.

"The early 911S is an exhuberant car, and I hope the new owner frees it from its relative garage queen status. Well bought."
