    rebuilding hood struts

Is is possible to rebuild the hood gas struts. My local gas strut man says
it's not but I've a feeling that he's used to dealing with hyundais where it
doesn't matter much to have the correct date stamped parts.

I'm hoping that I can grab some new struts and swap out the guts into the
    old bodies. Anybody done this?

The last thing you want to do is to open up a gas strut. No I've never done it, and there is a good reason, gas is in there under high pressure. How much, I really don't know, think of it as something that could possibly hurt you. Make a stencil for your date code.
