1/4 window rubber install: method to the madness?

Before I swandive off a bridge from sheer frustration, is there any method to putting the rubber around the quarter window glass and then installing this in the metal quarter window frame without rubber shifting around and becoming uneven? Should the rubber be installed in the frame first or put around the window and then caulked in the frame?

I did this a couple of years ago and I put the rubber on the glass first. Then I mounted the window frame over the rubber. I don't recall having any problems with the rubber shifting though, but I did use a lot of soap and water to make it fit.

I didn't use any caulk, I'm not sure the factory used any either, hopefully the experts can chime in and verify this

Just take your time Kaleid, you'll get it right
