How does the skid plate mount? From these photos, it looks like the case must be drilled and tapped?

Anybody??? I'm basically trying to figure out if it is a direct bolt-on to the engine case or were there some sort of brackets between the skid plate and case? Thanks.

Ask the man who owned the car! There were small L brackets that bolted to the engine case. Nothing was drilled or tapped. It all bolted to existing engine hardware points. Unfortunately I no longer own the car so I can not measure for you.

does it really make sense to do that?
on impact wouldn't the stress taken by the plate just be transferred to the case anyways?

All my german equipment is either busted or sold...sigh....in the market for a decent non-sunroof tub!!!!!!! Help me get back to autocrossing!!!
I guess the exhaust will also be somewhat damaged on impact, so I suspect this is to guard from rubble damaging the engine moreso that saving the engine on impact after a aerial excursion !

Thanks. That's what I need to know.
Nick - thanks, that makes it easier.
Others - I will put this to the test on some cattle grates at this year's Iron Bottom, er ... Targa California ... and report back. Last year I just heard LOUD scraping noises.
Would you be willing to post the specs for the skid plates?
They look like a relatively simple fabrication.
I’m not going to entertain asking what the NOS ones cost at Edmond Harris.
