    Plating Question

I am having a few parts on my 67 plated. I need to know what color the brake air shields, hood and trunk latches and door strikers should be. Can anyone help?

    Plating Question

As best I know the back plates are black on a 67, yellow zinc plated on 70 and up. Latches and strikers are clear zinc. Lets see how the voting goes.

    My 69 has the following

    1. brake shields flat black.

    2. Rear, front and door strikers Clear\Blue cad.

All the above were fitted with Gold Cad hardware.

An origional 70 that i've seen was the same except for the Gold Cad brake shields.

After removing my door strikers they are silver on the back. My hood and trunk latches are painted silver cad color so I don't know what color they were. My brake shields were bead blasted at one time and then painted so I suppose that they were painted before (although I don't know if that was original or not).

The brake shields are definitely black. I've looked closely at the latch hardware on two original '67 cars. It appears to be clear, but when you take the fasteners off and look at the areas where it hasn't been exposed, they were gold in both cases. The latches themselves are clear however.

    Tom,

Can you describe what you mean by clear finish?

I think that's essentially "silver." The term clear is in contrast to the additional steps to give the yellow color.

I recently had some parts cad yellow and cad clear plated including hood and decklid latches. I opted to have the spring cad yellow plated and the latches cad clear plated.
As a side note, the clear cad looks fairly dull when done. The finish is very similar to media blasted and clear matte coated. To give a more reflective appearance I used Mother's Mag Polish and got the results I wanted. The pic below is pre-polished.

    latch finishes

    From the Carmel judges:

Latches should be "white metal" with yellow bolts and washers.
