    67S targa numbers

What was the total production numbers for 67 S Targas? Original Porsche 911 book sayes 718 were built, but also says 67 Targa numbers were also 718. Seems odd Porsche built the same exact numbers?

    Total for S Targa

The number of total Targa 911 AND 911S is 718.

Just the "S" were 483. The S were in series with the other cars and stamped only as needed. Olaf Lang at the factory confirmed the quantities and Vern Lyle published these in the "Esses".

(Just another reason to belong to the Early S Registry, with minimal yearly dues where else do you get info like this?)

FYI - 1968 911S targa has the lowest production numbers of all early S cars at only 442 built. Interesting fact. The 67 S targa comes in second at 483 built.

    1968 911s, 1967 911s

    Great info VinEx.

With time we'll fill in even more of the blanks.

Now we just have to petition the publishers to update the books...we know the authors have current info, but the publishers are not inclined to republish 20 year old books for one or two lines of text.....

    I know of a 1967 911S Targa number around 500650S. Were other S's made after 483?

    Quantity of "S"

67SoftyS, I hope your not confusing the Quantity - total number of cars made - with the sequence order of serial numbers.

That 483 is the total number of "S" cars made. They were interspersed among the 718 cars.

(Someone was a one time trying to see if the S cars were made in batches, - like 10 at a time - but didn't have enough info to draw conclusions. There was also speculation that the paint shop did cars in batches, red cars grouped together blue cars grouped, but again not enough info to draw conclusions.)

That would be neat to see if they were made in batches. I am collecting data on factory slant nose cars also to see if the same thing was done. Cool thread.

Thanks for info, very helpful. I have 2 67S targa's: 500386S and 500714S. Since 500714 was so close to the end of production run, I wasn't sure if 718 was total or just S. Thanks for clarification. I also have non S 67 targa, 500558. I've owned Porsche's for 29 years, but just found and joined the Early Registry this year. Great resource for early 911's. Thanks
