My trip to the Monterey Historic weekend started Thursday morning driving North in my car, following Lars and his friend Bob in Lars' 500E MB....
Taking a different route out of Greenfield, I found myself almost the only car going Northwest on Calif.'s famous and infamous G-16/Carmel Valley Road... For the next 40 miles I was having another drive to remember....![]()

After arriving in Monterey I went to the Embassy Suites to get my 'crew credential' for the weekend at Laguna Seca. At the track my credentials got me into the participants Welcome Party'.... GREAT!!!. After, I headed over the 'grade' back to Carmel for a night at 'Car Night at the Cantina.... lot's of cars, friends, and beer....
Friday morning it was back to Carmel and to the Quail for the rest of the afternoon with more friends, GREAT cars, gourmet food, and some of the best wine around. We also caught some of the Bonhams & Butterfield's auction. Later that evening we went into town for some the action at the RM auction.
Saturday was a whole day at the track, walking the pits and watching some pretty good racing with some of the best vintage racecars in the world. Sat. night back into town for more auctions...
My friend's Group 4B race was Sunday at 2:30 so I thought I'd get a good start and packed up early at the hotel only to find my car keys missing...Keeping an extra ignition/door key in my wallet didn't help the old 'Club' steering lock that I had set and didn't have an extra key for.... Hours later the young 'on-call' locksmith came and 'picked' my old Club in about 2 minutes, no harm to the steering wheel, or Club.......... you decide if there's any lessons to be learned by all this.....

Got to the track a little after lunch with plenty of time to help my friend in his race. My friend did well and kept his nose clean and all went well. After his race I was pretty much done with the weekend and headed home.... making my 20th, or so, Monterey weekend another great one in the books....![]()
About 800 miles, 1/2 quart of Brad Penn, and ALLOT of gas....... and yes, I found my keys under the bottom liner of my bag......![]()
