    RS #197 for sale

I have decided to place my car, RS #197, up for sale.

The car is one of the original 500 homologation cars and is an M472 (Touring Trim) in Bahia Red with LSD. Every panel is original to the car and virtually unmarked. The car has had a light external repaint but all door jams, luggage area, engine bay etc are original paint. Paint is excellent with some minor stone chips on the bonnet area.

Ducktail is original alloy and has never been painted.

Car still retains its original steering wheel, plastic horn butterfly, mostly original internal trim in perfect condition including recaros still with original corduroy inserts, original unmarked dash, door pockets, radio etc etc along with full tool kit, jack, webster air compressor and Porsche purchased German language handbook and supplement. Removeabale carpets have been replaced for some unkown reason with an excellent match to the existing carpets.

Car had a half roll cage fitted at some stage but this has now been removed although some minor evidence of its presence is still visible. While the underneath is in near perfect condition the floor pan area has the original bahia red paint covered with a black paint none of which is visible in wheel arches or sill area. 85 litre tank is a good as I have ever seen with hardly a scratch and steering rack protection plate is still in place.

While not 100% proveable, due to service books no longer being with the car, it is believed that the car has done 104,000km from new (confirmed at 78,000km in 1990 when books were still present with the car) and certainly the condition of the underneath, sills etc would provide evidence to support this claim. Rob Wolford had a speedo repair done in 2005 and had the speedo re set to 0 when it was showing just over 1000km at the time.

A brief history shows the car was a one owner until 1990 where it was sold on consignment by Autofarm UK, it made its way to Japan in 1996 and eventually acquired by Rob Wolford in the USA in 2005 and subsequently sold to Joe Barnes and then to me in 2007. The car is currently located in Australia.

This is definately one of the best, a spectacular example in awesome condition.

Hopefully someone stateside still has some money left after the turmoil of recent days!!!

It now looks like a six month old car, much more appealing than a freshly restored car IMHO. This RS is truely one of the best.
I don't doubt anything about the car, however, Warren Zevon is singing from the grave these days: "Send lawyers, guns and money; the $hit has hit the fan".

    Tom,

    You may well be correct.

There are few cars like RS #197 around, so you never know.

I saw lots of great cars change hands at auctions at Monterey recently so not all the money has gone and an RS, not as good as this, changed hands for quite a bit more when you consider the buyers premium added to the sale price.

Thanks for the compliments Bryan but as you know there is not really much that can be done to improve the car.

Quality always brings the money. 197 is one of very few RSs that has never been restored, find another.

Thanks for the support for my car Tom

I am sure there are others out there unrestored, Russell Edmund Harris has one or 2 I believe, with very low kms, Mike has listed another and thats great, I am happy for anyone who owns such a car.

In my case I am seeking a purchaser. If there is one, they will decide if the car is worth the money and whether its orginality and provenance stacks up with others for sale.

I'll take my chances that it does......comfortably!!!
