    Interesting rusty 68S for Eurozone?

    Here is a car that should probably go back to the fatherland for restoration. Could be nice; needs most everything but a good resto object. The grills in the under the bumper foglight cutouts are interesting. Anybody seen these before? Thanks.

    This is a tough project, it is almost all there, but the rust is very active on this car.

    Be interesting to see what this one brings. Add $75 to $100K and you wind out maybe all right depending on the price. I like the lights.

    You guys are too harsh

    Send it back? C'mon now. Step up somebody. I want to see money where the "mouths" have been on others like this. You shouldn't flush everything back to Europe just because it's a little rough. Take the good with the bad. It's only money.

    The dollar is stronger so that market will get weaker. Up till now they were getting a hell of a discount. Their economies are in the crapper too and the Germans will tighten up quick fast and in a hurry.

    Price today is:

    1.273 Euro 1.00 USD
    1.528 GBP 1.00 USD

    Make note of the details and "tag" this one. It will be back (somewhere).

    Yep

    Mostly because it is a Euro model since we didn't get the Ss in 68. They do seem to have more tolerance though for restoring cars in this condition.

    I would love restore this one. It is a model with very interesting details and options. The fact that the car has all of its original components will make it an easier project. The difficulty here is the extent of the restoration. The description in the ad does make it sound that the car will need to be totally disassembled, each part rebuilt and re-assembled. But what a car you will end up with!

    I would have placed a bid if I didn't already have a project going. The rust issues look pretty bad but salvageable, has nice options, good color. It requires deep pockets though and at $16K is fast approaching someone elses project.

    Guys,
    Did I miss something? Yes it's a project...but it's got most of the original stuff. It will cost no more to restore this rare '68 911S than to restore a plain Jane '68 911, or '68 911L. Yet it is a real "S" and lot's more car than a none "S". How many SWB "S" cars are still out there? I hope someone in our group steps up to this. It would be nice to see it stay in the US.

    Richard:

    It's what you cannot see that's will be the problem. The roof drain(s) probably clogged and thus you have a rusty roof. The whole bottom is toast. I truly worry about the condition of the torsion tube.

    If you throw enough money at anything it can be made new but a nice original well preserved/maintained car is worth more no matter what's on the back of it.

    This seller decided to cut bait and let someone else fish. A wise move imho.
