Just getting ready to start the interior on my '67 and was wondering if the light ivory was the only headliner color available. Was black also an option?

Ivory only...no black. But that's up to you!

Thanks Eric,
I think I will stick with Ivory. What year was black first available as an option?

I've only seen it in the parts book for 1973, and memory was that it's for the RS only.

Black headliners are really striking in an early car...period correct or not. It was the only thing that was NOT redone/replaced on my car during the interior restoration. I think it would look fantastic in your SWB project.

I think the 67 headliner is more grey than ivory [lower sample original?]. I am trying to figure the correct hole spacing. Is the early hole spacing more square than pattern of later headliners?
Hello 66S,
This has been on my back burner for a long time and your inquiry prompted me to photo the differences for some 1964/65 and later headliners. Yes they came in the two color samples as you are showing above.
Color:
Lets start with the color. When disassembling my 1964 911 the headliner appeared to be a muddy gray/tan. At the time the only headliner available thru Porsche, Stoddard, PB Tweeks, etc. was the Ivory (or Black)..so an Ivory was put in. The small edge sample from the original was stored.
On puling it out and checking against another remnant from a 1965 the unexposed color is a medium gray - (for reference the Pantone color closest to it is Cool Gray 4C). When you put the two, taken from the cars, samples of the Gray and Ivory together depending on how heavy a smoker the driver was and any other factors they look almost the same... kind-a dirty tan.
Pulled out a NOS 1980's period headliner and it definitely Ivory.
Hole spacing:
The original gray hole is about 1mm diameter and is 10 holes per 2" in a square pattern.
1980's Ivory is also a 1mm hole, on 7 holes per 2" in a offset diagonal pattern.
Please note these photos are not "color corrected" with any accuracy. So please don't expect to match a color from your monitor. The samples are just to show how similar the colors appear to be - but on side by side examination how different.
(Ain't this fun).
Does anyone have samples from the current availability Porsche/Stoddard/Pelican/Zims to see what is out there today?

If you are doing a concourse restoration go with what the car came with.
If you have a choice, a black headliner will make the cabin seem dark and small. A white headliner will brighten it up and make it seem larger. If you aren't trying to re-create the original black headliner a white headliner will give your 911 a lighter, roomier feel.
Whoa...I got a black headliner in my 71 and love it. I'm usually going way too fast to notice my cabin seems smaller due to the black overhead.....![]()
