    Absolute gourgeous 66 roller

1/28/09 pictures added belowhere's the deal, I have a early 66 912 that is freshly done and is as nice if not nicer than Scott Turnbull's 66 911 yeah that nice....
well,to be fair I havent seen in the flesh Scotts, I dont think(Ventura this year, maybe, didnt stay long)
    at any rate,
a very nice and totally dry sand beige original that had a 914 engine in it and I have a fully prepped and dolled up 67 912 engine to put in it...

However since both are not original engines, I thought of offering a ready car, stripped repainted original color , new EVERYTHING...seals ect..
entire suspension new bushings, brakes, ..replated powder coated ect ect....
very lush interior done in very fine hides in tan.
    beautiful gaps with original pans.

all in all a stunning beauty of a 66! more fun could be had as a clone with a 911 engine since SWB 911s are getting harder to find.

put the powerplant of your choice and leave the restoration for those who already have a car, the money, the time, the disease.....
I swear I think you have to be a little OCD to make these cars right.

skip the stressful/therapeutical part(just depends who you are, for me this is better than $50K of therapy) and fastrack yourself with this "project"

Some of you have seen the blue 912 when visiting my new garage...
this beige one is real nice and tight.
I will post some pictures as soon as weather and time permits.

heres' one of the blue in the mean time

btw when first acquired the car it was red and seeing the faded beige in some spots, I initially didnt think I was going to like the original color...
but it was indeed Scotts car that changed my mind and I am glad I returned it to beige, such a nice color and car!

I am thinking $24K as a ready roller...?? is this worth it?
    opionions and feedback welcome

meanwhile think this car (Scott, I hope you dont mind me posting a pic of your car)
and your 3/4 of the way there. put your engine and yourself on the road today!

    1968 912R Lightweight

    Yellow/Black interior

Truely a very well done restoration of a low mileage (currently 44k miles) rust free, no damage early short wheel base 912 coupe. This special Porsche 912 has been built by national award winning Porsche enthusiast & professionals dedicated to quality workmanship using the best available materials while tastefully maintaining the overall design theme from the inspiration of the very rare and unique lightweight 1968 911R, Porsche’s first 911 built to race. Including features such as: front & rear bumper deco delete, rocker panel deco delete, antennae delete, H4 headlamps, fog lamp cover delete, 911R rear lamps (brake & turn signal) & reflectors, black positive Porsche decals (sides & rear deck lid), racing positive Porsche decal on front deck lid, insulation delete for weight savings, reproduction 911R Scheel lightweight racing seats with Auto Pro Racing System 3″ black racing 5 pt safety belts, RS style door panels & lightweight carpet, rear seat delete, radio delete, clock delete, Momo “prototipo” steering wheel, dead pedal, fire extinquisher, lowered and corner balanced with Koni sport shocks, new ball joints and tie rods, disc brakes with dual circuit master cylinder, stainless steel brake lines, rare 1968 15″ X 5 1/2″ deep Fuchs with hearts mounted in front with 15″ X 7″ Fuchs in the rear with a set of Yokohama 205 X 55R tires (wheels finished in RSR frosted style by Al Reed Polishing). The power train (110 HP) was completely rebuilt including big bore kit, solex carbs, SC cams, new crankshaft and pistons, cylinders redone, sport exhaust, 12 volt system, and four speed transmission. This is absolutely a one of a kind very special car, one which is appreciated more when you see and drive it for yourself. It is more fun to drive than you can imagine. Handles like a dream, sounds great and quick enough to give you a thrill. A car you could not nearly replace for only……………………………………………………………………………………………….. $34,500

why build a car like this and then put only a 110hp motor in back? At least spend another $5k and stuff a 3.0 SC motor in it....

Because it's a 912. Ask anyone who followed him at the Rally in the Valley. He could give all you wanted on the back roads of the Shenandoah Valley. More power would kill the balance of the car and as it sits it's an absolute hoot to drive. Installing a 3.0 liter would miss the point of the exercise.
    It is a 912.

    Hi Tom,
I know that the weight distribution of the 912 is superior to the 911, and that balance would certainly give the 912 a significant advantage thru short and sharp turns. If the world were made up mostly of short turns, I would sell my 911's and buy a 912 and save myself a bundle. But since the world is made up of straightaways, GS turns, as well as hairpin turns, and big stretches of highway where there is no speed limit (I live in Germany) the 911 is clearly the car to own because of the extra cylinders and extra HP it's packing in the rear.
I have heard of a mechanic in Florida who gets north of 230hp out of his 912 motor and consistently beats out entire fields of 911s on the track. But his engine needs to be torn down and rebuilt every other week. The 912 is a neat car and just as beautiful in almost every aspect as the 911, but I am hooked on 911's.

the consensus on getting more or max power out of a 912 engine case is a mistake. According to many, this is an invitation for an expensive disaster.
Apparently the 2.0 914 case is by far superior and ideal tho the aftermarket
cases are specially built for more and even turbo.

I have a 69 912 with a similar set up as the above R tribute.
Webers, big bore kit, aux cooler, MSD, alum S calipers, vented rotors,
Weltmeister front and rear sway bars, corner balanced.
Its a real joy and the handling sublime altho with more power I could really get used to it. my other 912 has a 2.0 MFI S engine with S suspension and is clearly more fun.

I believe Richard has a 2.4S engine he's willing to package up with the deal.

    more pics

everything was redone, gauges, replating, glass out bare metal repaint
not much left but the fun or close if you decide on more power.
the trim in the spirit of giving a 912 a more sportier look, can be returned to original silver or was it chrome for 66?
