    Electrical Gromet Fender Mount

OK I am looking for any words of wisdom. My female plugs for the wiring harness that mount in the front fenders are not staying where they are supposed to be. I will get them into position, get what seems like a complete spread of the inner rubber around the fender metal, but in a day or so, they pop out the back.

So far this does not seem to be an issue, but I am worried about the long term effects of having these things out, and the wiring running through the hole where the plug should be.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can keep these things put. Maybe I just need some psychological help and just resolve that these plugs will not stay put. back ones work fine, but both fronts are rogue.

    thanks -- rr

I use a clear silicone paste on all things rubber, makes the rubber slippery and more important for your case, it also tends to soften it so that lip is more likely to spread out and stay locked. At least that has been my experience in exactly this same application.

I cannot say what phenomena is responsible for your self-loosening plugs, but would recommend:
    1. thoroughly cleaning the recessed portion of the plug to remove any grit, grease or foreign material.
    2. also clean the fender hole on both sides.
    3. insure there is no undo tension on the plug from side it is being displaced.
    4. make sure the male and female electrical connectors are also clean, so they fit snuggly.
    5. and most importantly - make sure the raised tab on one of the connectors completely seats into the converse on the other connector and both connectors are very firmly mated.
