I think you're confused - this makes no sense. What they MEAN is that this was one of the first 500 (first series) RS's produced, using the thinner gauge steel, etc and used for homologation, then taken back to the factory and fitted with M472 options.

By the way, this is St. Peter's ex-car, also available in Hemmings. I LOVE this part of the ad: "This car was a bare tub complete 100% rotisseries concours restoration performed by world famous Scott St. Peter of Carrera 6 in Pasadena, Ca."

nothing like a little puffery for the uninitiated...492 was delivered w a M472 touring option, also, color 6262, light yellow...notwithstanding, this looks to be a really sweet car, and Scott does fine work..

As Stacey says lets get this right its simply a M 472 that now been changed to look like a lightweight using correct parts supposedly.

Its a big ask for non original car...wrong colour, new case, wrong finish etc and yes I wasn't aware Scott was world famous either.

is IMHO puffery to say the least if not outright misstatements. EXACTLY, what got the U.S. in trouble the last 10+ years. This is and was and will always be origianlly a Touring Model in different colors than original (as stated above). According to the "RS Book" it originally was White/Red. YES, looks like a first class conversion job but ONLY with (Very) careful reading will you know that it REALLY is.

The Excellence article about this car also perpetuates the myth that all of the first 500 cars started life as an M471 'lightweight' and were then converted by the factory to M472 touring trim after a trip to the scales. It's a weak justification for how an RS touring converted to lightweight trim is somehow supposed to be factory original...

Folks have pointed out this car has non-original colors, non-original configuration (M471) and a non-original engine case. It also has a replacement front clip - this is mentioned in the Excellence article and there is photo documentation of the replacement clip on the Carrera 6 website. It's still a gorgeous car and at least from the photos it's clear to me St. Peter did a masterful job of restoring this very rough RS. But I think I'd rather have a well-executed RS clone for under $100K than this "mostly" real RS for well over $200K

Sorry, was looking at 1492, not 492 when I said yellow...I stand corrected! Now of course the question, why go geen graphics when red would be correct, and it looks SOOO good, right Stacy?
