    2.0 liter alu case...

    All,
What's the prevailing value of a 2.0 liter aluminum case not needing any align boring?
I don't know the difference between the years - but I understand that the late '68 alu case is the cream of the crop...correct? When was the switch to mag cases? Was that in '68? or '69?

I'm shopping for an Alu case now...and have several prospects. I'm just looking for a better feel on what I should be spending for a good case. I'm building another 2.0 vintage race motor; so the case will get worked over for a larger oil pump, and all the other tweaks associated with a good 2.0 race engine. Competition Engineering will be doing all the machine work.

Anyone? any ideas? I'm looking forward to your collective input on this one.

Many big thanks...I sincerely appreciate the input.

    Cheers
    R/Thom

An early Alu case is an early Alu case, at least structurally, unlike the mag cases, where the later 7R cases are best (and preferably from an engine that didn't have thermal reactors).

The market has gotten soft, so $850 for a case w/ i-shaft is more than fair.

One thing that can have an effect on the value of an Aluminium case is the number a early 65 case or a 67S case would hold more value.

This is a good point: I need to keep this in mind - I most definitely don't want to work with any "historically significant" pieces on this race engine project...

Does anyone have case #'s handy? Are the actual case #'s listed in the little spec book? (which I have here)

This is great input - anyone else with any thoughts? I appreciate all of it - thanks again

    cheers

I have a couple of '67 complete motors coming in. The cases will be available for sale.

    PM me if interested.

    Thanks all!

Got one...just what I had in mind, too.

Later build, non-S numbered, and already partially tweaked towards what I'm trying to do...

    Thanks folks.

John, has that case been treated/coated with some product after the tumble? It looks a bit like the brownish color the Porsche racing cases had.

    John,

No, the brown is just shadows from my granite surface plate (aka the kitchen countertop). I DID treat the entire case with zoop seal, which seals the pores of the aluminum to prevent oxidation for many years.

    2.0 liter alu case...

Any woman that allows you to set an engine case on the countertop for picture taking is definitely a "keeper"
