1971 - location of fuel pump/build date question

My understanding was that in 71 the fuel pump moved to the left rear of the car. Mine is up front. I'm not sure of the build date of my car. The VIN is 9111100471. I think that is early in the series. Could it have been a leftover C series car?

Check to see whether you have the mounting console, welded to the car in the rear. If you have a rear sway bar, then the mounting console doubles as the left side mount for the sway bar.

My car is chassis #24 and it is in the front. I do not know the cut off but there are many '71's with the pump in front. Does you car have a twist knob on the glove box? Does it have a cover or tabs for the cover on the engine electronics? most of the early 71's have '70 stuff on them. Mine has nothing that is supposed to be on a 71, it was built with the '70 cars prior to the August holiday and model year shift.

If you have a vin sticker in the driver's side door jamb the build date should be shown there.

yes - twist knob on glove box

No sticker - the car had a bare metal repaint a long time ago and the sticker disappeared

You should find it on an aluminum plate riveted to the front hood latch panel. Also, if it's a US market car, there should be a plate riveted to the A pillar.
