    Hotrodding a 911S 2.0

After years of thinking and trying, I finally finally took the plunge in the summer of 2009 and bought this 1968 911S 2,0:

The car was delivered to Autogerma in Bologna, it is matching numbers and appeared quite sound. Well, they all do…

Interestingly, the car already has a magnesium crank case rather than aluminium. A works “bitsa” car.

After iceblasting the underbody some serious concerns about the structural health arose:

So I decided to go the full length and have the car properly restored – and modified for fast road use.

After doing the body, including some reinforcements, it was painted in its original color of light ivory. This is the current status:

Now I will have the suspension done with many parts from Elephant racing. Rear lid and bumper will be glass fibre. Larger brake callipers and master cylinder will improve stopping powers. The interior will be done with lightweight carpet, period bucket seats and a roll bar.

And to round things up nicely, I was happy to source this engine, a 2,5 twin plug alu case jewel with Carillos, 46 Webers and lots of expensive parts:

Now the long road to completion really becomes painful. I can hardly wait to hear the engine fire up for the first time! The first drive should take place sometime in spring. These weeks will be cruel…
    Keep up the speed!

It is a Bosch base with a Marelli cap.

The engine is a true marvel. Some poor guy had it built and could not pay, so it came at a good price...

    Anatol,
I look forward to the completion of this project! Do my eyes deceive me - is there something different about those flares?

Wow. I don't even know what to say about that engine. Congrats if you scored that reasonably. Good luck on the project.

    Hi Bob,
the flares were really strange. The looked like later lwb flares but had a step where the sill trim meets the rear arch.

There was some evidence that the car might have had a shunt on the right rear side. So maybe somebody used later panels for repair in that incident.

At any rate, now all panels are period correct - and new.

I will update the thread as the project progresses!
    Keep up the speed!
