questions on my 70S certificate of authenticity

    Hi,
I just received my Certificate of Authenticity from my newly acquired 70S project (#1436). The car was Bahia red with balck leatherette. It looks like the original owner had some sport intend for it ! The option list is :

    -Limited slip differential
    -Roll bar
    -Front bumper w/o bumper horn
    -Comfort equipment for 911S

    My questions are :

1-Does some one know more about the roll bar option alone (without sport kit equipped car) ? Does the roll bar just have the main hoop or also with diagonal braces, like ST ? So what about the rear seats ; this will be in interference with the rear seat ?
    2-What is comfort equipment for 911S ?
3-Does all 70S came with sport seats or it was an option that should be list on the COA ?

    Thanks !
    JD

So you should have the welded in brackets for the roll bar! At that time I think the roll bar had one diagonal brace. Sport seats for the 70S were an option. If not listed, it came with standard seats. Comfort equipment for the 70S might have been just 14 in Fuchs. There is a bit of confusion with that one in terms of the S. At least I'm still not entirely sure.

Yes the car have the roll bar mounting plates, but unfortunetly, I got it as a bare rolling chassis with steelies, so no clue on rims or seats.

Roll bar : Was it a diagonal bar within the main hoop or from the main loop on left side to the diagonal brace, close to the rear seats mounting point, on the right side ?

    Thanks !

I think there was only one style of the early roll bar (other than material).

Does it give you a part # for the comfort equipment? I suspect that this was probably mistranslated and should be the standard appearance group that would be on every "S" except for the ST's and the like.

    Here is a good explanation

Thanks guys, but after few search in my books collection, I found in "Original 911" from L.Meredith that the 70S we listed in tha catalog as bare-racing cars. (No insulation, no trims, etc.) and almost all of them got the option M470 - comfort kit. This was bringing the S in the form we almost all have, except few of the "sport purpose" one.

Still no cue on the roll bar : by having a roll bar option, does this mean rear seats delete at the same time ??

    Hi JD,

I promised to try and find out more on the rollbar, sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner.

I was looking for two pics of rollbars I've seen mounted in the past. Here they are:

    Attachment 79605

    Attachment 79606

The first one is AFAIK a correct 72 rollbar (with diagonal crossbar) mounted on a 72E. The second is a rollbar mounted on a 72S that was converted to RS specs by the Australian distributor, if I remember correctly. This one does not have the crossbar, so I don't know if it was a third-party item or a rollbar for a different year.

In both cases, you can see the mounting points. In the case of the 72S, the seats are in, which shows how the rollbar did not interfere with installation. Folding down the seats, OTOH, doesn't appear possible.

    Hope this helpe, Guru

Where did you find your 70s chassis? Was it in Canada?
