    Steering wheel cover...

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good steering wheel cover for an old school OEM Porsche steering wheel? These old steering wheels have a huge diameter by today's standard. I can't find one anywhere that fits it. I'm trying to preserve the old leather one that came with the steering wheel, the stitching is gone and I don't know where to begin to find the stitching replacement. I'm thinking the easy fix is to cover it all with a newer cover and to deal with the old one at a later date.
    Thanks,
    Scott

Wheelskins work fine, Scott. You'll need to use the "vintage" original style size and it helps to lay it in the sun & dampen it to stretch a bit.
The stitching is pretty simple but easier if the wheel is removed from the car.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Agreed- I've got one on my 400mm wheel and it fits great.

Alan Guns kit is better, it covers the spokes like the original.

Thanks for that link, John... Allan Gun's kit is priced right, too.

"911 Models: Please note, we now have available on the part numbers below marked "(PRESEWN)" the availability of having your wheel kits PRESEWN saving you 2-3 hours of sewing time. It is much easier to sew, and looks like factory original for an fee of $15.00 to your kit below."

$69.95+ $15 for pre-sewn? Deal. Or simply send the wheel to them.

Caveat emptor with Alan Gun. He seems to have a reputation as the Motor Meister of the leather steering wheel world on Pelican and Rennlist. Check out this thread or this one or just do a search.

I've never bought anything from him, but have heard of problems for years.

I have bought several kits from Alan, no problems at all. But I will recomend that you order extra tread and get hold of two "moon" needles. The best way to sow is with two needles and two treads at the same time. There is a few treads about that process here if you do a seach.

not to hijack the thread, but anyone have experience with dallas custom steering wheel?

also, I've read that Tony at Autobahn Interiors does steering wheels, and I'm sure he does a great job....

anyone else out there doing wheels? I have a few projects for the selected vendor, so I'd like to find the right one.

If you are not DIY, Tony is among the best, maybe the very best.
