69 trunk color

from researching other threads, i've seen that swb trunks were originally painted black and that the trunks of the 2.2 and 2.4 cars were mainly body colored with a gray gas tank. but i haven't been able to find out what the trunks were painted in 69. were they still being painted in the manner of the swb cars, or had they already moved to body colored? how were the gas tanks painted?

More dependent on where your tub was built. Even in 70 if it was a Karmann car then the trunk was painted black.

So, it depends where your tub was built. Also somewhat dependent on the model. Karmann didn't build any S cars.

thanks michael. very helpful. mine is a karmann body and the trunk is painted black and so is the gas tank. the outside of the car was repainted once, but i think (but don't know for sure) that the paint inside the trunk is still original.

Al 69 trunks, lid hinges, and engine bays were black, body color in the trunk didn't start until the 70 model year, except for Karmann built cars as Michael has noted.

I concur with Ed. My '69 trunk and engine compartments were sprayed in black.
