Met a Vintage Racer in town! Chuck Sargent

Last year while paging through one of my dad's Sport Car Mags from the 60's, I noticed a fellow that raced out of Modesto(my home town). Looks like he raced against the best of them, Stirling Moss, Dan Gurney, Jack McAfee etc.. A little research and I come to find he still resides in town. So, long story short I paid him a short visit only a few minutes away. He doesn't have much of the car stuff anymore as he got into golf after walking away from racing early in his career. Raising his family became his priority as expected. Although, he had a few fellow race car drivers not make it home. His voice actually got very shaky when he talked about his friends and said he may not been around now if he did not quit at the time.

Anyways, he and his wife were kind enough to have me over one morning.
His former car is the famous #2469 Maserati Birdcage which he told me is now at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum(worth millions probably).
Here's a few shots and articles of interest:

    Thumbs up

    Paul,

    This is GREAT!!!!

    Listen,

I'm involved with the Fabulous 50's group here in SoCal that celebrates the road racers and their race cars of the 50's and 60's. They're a wonderful group of people loosely organized by racer/author Art Evens. Some of these people have said they would have never thought their involvement in the sport more than 40 years ago would have made any difference to anyone but themselves until they got a call or email from Art or Davey and Norma Jordan, or some of the others who've kept up contact....

I'll send you Art Evens email address for your new friend Chuck if you like........ who knows, it might start him on a whole new adventure.......
