    '74 2.7 MFI Carrera F/S

I'm selling my '74 Belgian-Luxembourg delivery Carrera. Really, really nice and very correct driver + condition car with some pretty cool factory goodies you normally don't see due to PO's modifying and upgrading. Exterior restoration completed within the past year, original interior in remarkable condition, and a fresh 2.7 MFI motor built on a factory no numbers case w/ lots of details inside that you can't see and a bunch on the outside that you do (It would cost almost $25K to build this motor again). I'm asking $69,500 and will consider partial Porsche trades. SALE PENDING
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,

Very nice indeed. The underside of the ducktail is really intersting. I have never seen wire mesh like that up against the fiberglass. The latch brace looks correct. Have you seen other Carrera ducktails with this mesh before.

    Best wishes on the sale.

    Brian,

I think that 'mesh' might be a strange pattered shadow... it's on the deck hinge as well......

Nope, but I've never seen a Belgian delivery Carrera. The car went to the Belgian importer (Messrs. D' Ieteren) who prepairs their cars with certain details themselves (?). Maybe this tail is specific to that market (It's definately factory and not aftermarket). I have only partially learned what special items are contained w/in the 'Belgian-Luxembourg' spec: First aide kit, emergency roadside triangle, rear fog light by the exhaust outlet. There's more, but Porsche doesn't seem to know what it should have been back in 1974 (there is a thread in General info where I inquire and get some good partial answers). I know the ducktail was outlawed in Germany due to concerns of potential harm to pedestrians in the case of a collision and in the remaining Euro markets this tail was a special order item. It's listed on the COA and a letter dated from '83 from Porsche of Germany to the PO. Based upon my experience, the '75/76/77 Euro market Carrera/Turbo Carrera whaletail is different then the US spec tail, being all fiberglass construction vs. metal frame w/ fiberglass spoiler top. It stands to reason that the Euro duck might be different the US spec in '74? The duck on my '74 Euro Carrera is metal frame w/ fiberglass spoiler section. There is a metal grid that has been meticulously fused to the fiberglass throughout the entire underside (Chuck, I think the grid/Shadow you see on the deck hinge is grim and grease from the tech's hands during the engine install ). The craftsmanship is truly something to behold as the grid's metal is bent/formed to perfection as are the tacking/bonding strips. Doesn't hurt that the overall condition of the duck appears as flawless too. To me, I believe the grid was added for some reason that has to do with adding weight to the tail. It is heavy compared to every other one I've ever seen.

    this is good info...

This is a neat detail on a neat car.

It's also a detail that could be lost very quickly to the "obfuscation of time" (my own term)

Is anyone archiving/capturing these obscure tidbits as they come through here?
I know "we've" got a guy doing serial numbers, etc (DaveP?) but is this part of his deal? or should we get serious and start archiving the minute details like this?

Or am I so totally behind the curve on this one that I'm truly hopeless? (won't be the 1st time... )

    Hope alls' well
    Cheers

I am always interested in seeing things like this ID plate that was added on importation to Belgium. Any ideas what the PVA # is? Is this like an the Swiss AMAG #? Sure is a great looking Carrera.
