    Ignition? Starter?...please help!

This is a 67 Normal, original, unhacked wiring. Yesterday, the starter operated only on occasion. I put in a high quality reman that I had on the shelf....same thing. The solenoid clicks and the headlights go dim when the key is turned to start. I cleaned all the ground straps and contacts, etc. and the battery is strong. I have seen this issue discussed in the past and some said it's the switch. Has any body jumped the yellow and red wire behind the switch? Nobody has ever suggested that, only at the starter. Please help!! Thanks!

it's pretty well documented that the length of the yellow wire causes enough resistance that the solenoid won't engage if some things start to degrade, namely battery voltage or ignition switch condition. Some folks like to add a relay to the yellow wire, so a short run out of the relay provides solid voltage/amperage to the solenoid....others have suggested placing a momentary switch under the dash to operate the starter.....but I'd evaluate carefully, and if neccesary, replace the ignition switch.

Thanks, Sonnett43. The length of the old yellow start wire is the probable culprit. I jumped it to a 30 terminal @ the back of the switch and got the same reply as turning the key. Hard to assess the quality of the jump, though. Does anybody know if the contacts/connections are servicable if you take the back of the switch off? I would like to zero in on the yellow starter wire with some degree of confidence that I am done with the process of elimination. Thanks!

    I've posted this before:
    Adding a Remote Starter Switch
    http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars/RemoteStarter.htm

Use it as a guide to
    a) increase the service life of the NLA ignition switch
    b) increase probability the solenoid receives enough source voltage to energize the starter

    Hope this helps,
    Sherwood
