    901: Wevo or Rennshift

    Hi,

I am looking to improve my shifting experience (mostly for track use) with a fresh, rebuild 901 transmission. The best 2 alternatives in the market seem to be Wevo and Rennshift. Reading the old posts did not give me a crisp comparison nor preference for the any 2, so I thought I would try again with this post.

I cannot find a lot of information on the Wevo site about their 901 shifter. The advantages of the Rennshift seem to be clearer: the throw is adjustable and you can choose a longer stick (2").

I am interested in your views and side by side comparisons.

    Thanks - Dick

found mention here of 'seineshift' for $149... 915/901. that's something to consider against the $500 rennshift and wevo. pity wevo doesnt do black for 901!

I have a Rennshift in my 69E race car and love it. I've got it set on the longer of the two throws and its a huge improvement over stock.

The limit screws need to be carefully set (pretty easy to do). A niggle is some fasteners tend to loosen over time (tempted to locktight them).

My biggest gripe with it is all of the fasteners are imperial/non-metric, whereas the entire the car is metric! I just don't understand why they would make them like that.

WEVO positive shift joint and Weltmeister short shift kit. Works for me, 20 club races or so.

I did some more digging and the Wevo shifter also requires a 915 shift console to install the 901 product - so this is in addition to the Wevo product. You can change the springs for a different shift tension. The throw is set at 30% reduction, this is not adjustable. The stick is standard length and is not available in a different size.

Anything else ? Regards - Dick

I recently installed the Rennshift on my '71 911T & love it. The reverse lockout is great, so no more nicking reverse during the 1st to 2nd upshift. I've left mine on the longer of the 2 throws available for this shifter. I also installed the Rennshift coupler at the same time.

The Wevo shifter looked nice, but for the price they ask I thought it was silly that the customer was required to source additional later model shifter parts in order to complete the installation.

That was my thinking when I purchased the Renn.

I had a brief chat with Hayden from Wevo earlier this year while he was visiting Aus. We discussed 901 shifters and I seem to recall he was working on a new model that looked like an original but had all the modern shift gear inside. You then won't need the 915 console. It was a while ago so details aren't clear. Might be worth getting in touch.

I used a modified 901 shifter built by The 901 Shop, never misses a shift and has a lockout for 1st/reverse.
