Another problem you could have with your clutch

Broken cables and sheared roll pins are the clutch problems I've had. But there's something else that can break on the early cars. See the pic below, kindly supplied by the nice folks at Pelican. The highlighted item can break at the weld. In my case, the weld failed, I readjusted the clutch, the piece held for a while then slipped again, requiring me to adjust the clutch cable again. Then one morning the weld failed completely letting the pedal go right to the floor. My mechanic had heard of this, but never seen it. I think this cluster shaft functioned while broken for about two months, including two track weekends, before letting go completely!
So if you find yourself having to readjust the clutch at frequent intervals in order to get into first or reverse, you now have three things to check before thinking about checking the throwout lever.

that happened to me about 5 years ago, in almost the same sequence

and i couldn't figure out what was broken for a while - looked at the cable - OK looked at the trow out - ok and the cable was still attached

when it went though it went with a bang on the floorboard as the pedal hit the board which made me suspect the cable

it wasn't until i drove it home and then to my mechanic without the clutch (not too hard with a 915 so long as you dont have to stop too often) and then he called me after pulling apart the pedal assembly that i really knew want had happened

The ball pin where the clutch arm pivots on the trans can break, I try to put new ones in now after I had one break.
