I think there may have been a discussion on this at some point but can anyone recommend a way to "age" one of the Stoddard repro hood crests? I just can't get myself to put it on the car the way it looks out of the box. Too much bling.
Thanks
Nick

No sure on forum but 3 methods in volume 16 #4 2006 ESSES mag. Here is one I did using method 3, looks great.

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.
But after that moment you are on your own and nobody owes you a damn thing.
Mark, that looks really good. I did try to follow Method #3 a while back but had the damndest time finding Rottenstone so gave up. Any suggestions on where to find the stuff? The result obviously seems to be work.
Nick it's also called tripoli it's just a polishing compound. I picked up at local ACE hardware store. I have also seen @ full service truck stop's they carry for polishing do dads on big rigs. Really it looks better than in pic patina wise best part half hour start to finish. With the orange shellac you can really age it to your taste.

i was thinking about getting one and burying it in the backyard for the winter to see how it would age.

would anyone have a copy of the volume 16 #4 /2006 spare to sell / scan?
Would dearly like to have a read...
Thanks
Will
Harry, the same thing had crossed my mind...let me know how it goes...I tried baking it on the oven at low heat but no change.
Mark, that helps. Both Ace and Home Depot finally knew what I was talking about but looks like I'll need to order it. Can't wait to give it a try.
Will, here's that scan you were after with a very helpful article by Scott Marshall. It's becomes a little fuzzy with compression but you can just about read it.
Thank you Nick, very gratefully received!
