I've observed these boxes on STs. Were these off-the-shelf units, installed by the factory and/or were they only installed by selected race teams on their vehicles? What is the value of these in working condition?
Thanks,
Sherwood

Hi Sherwood, as far as I remember those were just aftermarket, but popular units, back in the day, and could have been installed by various race teams as they saw fit, but I'm not aware of any official factory connection. But as we know in the world of Porsche, never say never!!!

Hello Sherwood,
I recall these units from my early hot rod days with 'Merican Cars, in the late 60's to early 70's. That was a Colorado company that built and sold the Delta MK 10 CD as a kit, or a completed unit. If I recall, the MK 10 B was set up with a slide switch that put the ignition back in the normal Kettering mode, in case of box failure, or if you needed use a low voltage timing lite, for example.
I built a few of these back in the day, and recall it as a quality unit, with a custom wound toroid transformer that was one of the key components to a reliable efficient inverter that was used to create the ~400v to charge the capacitor.
I tried to locate them a few years back, but they had apparently gone out of business in the 80's when all ignitions became high energy, or CD type solutions.
edit: here's a good link to more detailed info & pictures..http://www.selectric.org/delta/index.html

Tom, would you send me a scan of the manual? I have a Mark X that a type-written note in my owner's manual says was installed in my car on 1/25/1969. It wasn't hooked up when I got the car, so I don't know if it works.

I still have a Delta Mk XB on my ’68 911 since I ‘updated’ from the Mk X.
Delta made twin-ignition versions of the Mk X (added two diodes) for no additional cost. I used them on my 904s and raced with them on my 587/3 and 587/2 powered RS-60. These fired both ignitions from one set of points. I had a switch to select which distributor, one set a few degrees advance from the other.
They also worked well on the Marelli 4-point distributor.
I still have a Mk XB on my 914-6 racer, complete with capacitor and ballast resistor for easy return to Kettering. Makes ignition diagnosis easy.
I have never had a Delta Mk X/B failure.
Best,
Grady
I have the Mark X, the earlier version w/o the switch. Used it on my '69 for years.
I have one on my 67. It took me years to get the tach to work. I have seen them sell on ebay for under $20.

I bought a new kit in the box with stickers on ebay for $28 to use on my 67S. Id like to know how Tom made his tach work with it.
