    Crank back from Pauter

I am currently deployed and my dream motor is being built while away, My crank just returned from Pauter to the shop performing the build and thought I would post (slow night). Knife edged, balanced, polished, oil mods.

In Eastern Afghanistan, be back around spring time, 4th go around for me and should be the last one.

This motor is getting dropped into a 71 T/Hotrod ( LW "RS ish"), car itself is finished and just waiting on the motor. I had a pretty good 2.5ss in it but always wanted a true 8k rpm screamer. I have been collecting parts and saving for this for a while.

Motor will be a 2.5SS built on a Ollies fully prepped 7R case, shuffle pinned, line bored, oil mods, slight boat tailing, etc, Pauter Rods, Extreme modded heads/thier 2.5 race heads with Ti retainers, thier springs and Del West LW valves, 90mm Mahle/mooned with 10.0:1 JE pistons, JB Racing Twin Plugged dist, GT-3 oil pump, 46 PMOs, DC-62 cam, 901 shop headers many parts from Supertech/Thanks Henry. Will be bolted up to a 915 with 8:31/Guard Diff and re geared/Deep 1st shortened through 4th with a tall 5th for cruising.

Once I get back I will post some pics of the completed project, I have been planning this thing for quite a while and am excited about enjoying it once I get back and retired.

    Thanks,
    Jimmy

Hey, Jimmy. That's a gorgeous crank. It sounds like you're building a similar engine to the one I've got cooking and I know you're going to be very happy. You take care of yourself out there and come back soon.

My comment is about the transmission you described. It sounds interesting but, let me warn you, a TALL first gear with an 8:31 will be EXTREMELY tough on the clutch and flywhell, even if you've got a big a$$ motor. I know because I've been down that road with my own car.

Here's a copy of my gear chart for an RSR hill climb trans that was in my blue car. It was a 7:31 and I had a 3.0L monster motor behind it, but starting out from a dead stop required a lot of clutch slippage ... it would not have worked well with a smaller motor.

I like your ideas and I'm not trying to discourage you; I'm merely offering up personal experience.
