911 - 912. Are they the same bodyshells.?

    Hi all,

Can anyone clarify if a 69 LWB 912 shell is the exact same shell as a 69, 911.?

I am thinking of buying a LWB 912 to cut away sections of the chassis, for a very rusty 911 i have.?

From the little information i have managed to source, it seems that they are. But i would like to be 100% certain before i try to source a parts car.

Anyone have any experiences. Thinking, roof, rear seat pans, torsion tube, parcel shelf.
The usual hard to find parts.

    Thanks

    Dave

I think they are identical for exception of the engine mounts.

Someone will confirm or tell about the differences. Good luck with your project!

I think too, the 912 was mostly Karmann built, though I have a 67 912 that is Porsche built?!....Cliff

Cliff, i think the second digit of the chassis number determines Porsche or Karmann.
    Willing to be corrected though.

Max - the 6th digit of your VIN, being a zero indicates that it was Porsche-built coupe.

If the 6th digit is a '1' it would be a Targa

    -& if it was a '2' it would indicate a Karmann-built coupe.

However, all 'S' models were built by Porsche.
