When did Porsche first offer the rocker panel decals?

Not a 911 question but I am curious and I am sure many here will know the answers...When was the "PORSCHE" lower door/rocker panel stripe decal first offered by the factory on a regular production vehicle, and when did it first appear on a factory race car?
