    Seats Q

One of my next steps is to get a set of proper sports purpose seats for fritz.

one of the things im concerned about is size.. lets face it, since i have been working from home for the last 5 years i have become a little more sedentary, and packed on some chunk. i have about a size 40 waist. i am worried some of the buckets may be too narrow for me.

does any one have recommendations on a seat that works well for the shorter stockier rounder driver? something period correct is key..

being in oh-hell-no (i mean ohio) its hard to find a selection of people close by with different seats to try out.

    thanks!

talk to dave at TRE, better yet, go visit him....he's got a room full of seats, all the typical stuff, GTS galore, but he also makes his own, and can custom tailor them to you....very good looking seats, nicely made, very supportive....

Harry, you are still a little guy next to me, and I had Stefan at GTS build a custom measured seat both for width and height. These were done for my 356 and they are based on his Avis seat. Here are some photos, the passenger seat is stock dimension and the driver is the large. PM or E-mail me if you would like more photos or info on which measurements were taken.

Those look great Bob! if this is too personal a question, you dont have to answer, but how much of an additional premium was there to widen the seats?

For those that have the nurburgring seats, how does the seat fit for those who are a little bigger (40 waste)? If its stock do you think it should be a bit wider, or does stock width work fine for that size?

i did try a set a friend had in his (he said they were scheel seats, they look more like the RSR, ST or sebring seats from classiccarseats.com). They were definitely too narrow and too hard to get in and out of. are the nurburgrings easier to fit into and easier to get in and out of?

Harry- I visited Stefan's shop a while back (I'm lucky to be accross town from him) and i think the Nurburgrings are easier to get in/out of
than the ST, which I also like. The Nurgurgring is a small seat- his smallest I think. I'm 5'11", 31" waist, and if i were ANY bigger I'm not sure the N'rings would
    suit me.

    seat options

    Hey HH,
You could always go my route and get a pair of Recaro's from a BMW 320is. Had the hounds tooth fabric added to make them look more correct. Added electric seat warmers to take the chill of my bottom!

Thanks Tony, i thought about those, but not really the look im going for. I am thinking more period fixed bucket/racing seat for the driver. well, then again that could be a good option for the passenger side, thats going to be adjustable sports style seat since many rally cars had folding seats for the passenger side (so the driver or navigator could use it and take turns sleeping) -after all only the driver seat really needed to hold the driver in place.
