    Green front struts?

I am getting ready to order new Konis for my 65. The upper part of the front struts are painted green suggesting they are Bilsteins (the rear are yellow Bilstien as well). The Koni replacements are only available for Boge and original Koni struts. Anyone know which Konis to substitute? I was hoping to order parts and then do the job in a weekend limiting the downtime. Were Bilstiens even available on a 65?

I believe it was all Boge and Koni back then. You'll probably need to pull the part number off your strut housings and then do some searching here and on Pelican, I'm sure you'll get your answer then.

When I put Bilstein inserts in my Boge strut bodies a long time ago they came with green shaft covers. Is that what you have? What color are the strut bodies?

If it has replacement Bilstein strut inserts, why change them? Personally I like Bilsteins better...

The struts are black with the green cover. The reason for the change is after I hit a series of bumps, she rides like a Cadillac! I've never heard of any other brand of strut being rebuildable except Konis. I had Konis on my last car and liked them so that was the obvious choice for me. Sounds as if the Bilsteins were another repalcement cartridge for the Boge? Thanks in advance for all of the help, Christian

Sounds like you have Boge struts with Bilstein inserts. I think you can send them infor service but don't know what that entails.

Boge struts were usually black and have the name stamped into the housing and the cover. I don't believe the OEM inserts are available for this application so a lot of folks use the Bilstein inserts which are green. If your inserts are shot I'd replace them as they are not too expensive. Be sure to also order the special spanner wrench from Bilstein for $5 so you can properly torque the cap nut. There is also a spacer ring used when Bilstein inserts are used with Boge struts. Be sure to check if the spacer is in the strut before replacing since you may not be able to easily remove if you inadvertently place a second spacers. Post some picks and we can help you sort it.
