Questions on SWB reproduction turn and tail lenses

Does the current offering of reproduction turn and tail light lenses for the SWB cars have the Bosch name and logo on them?

Was there two offerings of these lenses? Or is the current offering the same as it was from the start.

    Tks,
    Eric

I don't know the original source - I got them through Jim S. - but I got a set of new lenses w/ the Bosch logo in 2004. If Bosch had them never available, than it would be repro's.

    Be carefoul.
Bosch never made an only lens swb production run...

And on a repro item is forbidden to use Bosch logo. They are (like Porsche, hella and all others german brands) very rigid to protect their trademark.

Is this a fact or a thought?

I will take some pictures of the lenses that I got in 2004.

If Bosch didn't make them, than there were repro's w/ the Bosch logo.

    Eric,

Some pictures. I think these came from Stoddard in '04.
On the spare lens are the remains of tape / glue, that is because I taped them to the housings while driving cross country (as you can see are the tabs not melted). I have a set of four US, 2 fronts and 2 rears and the 'ferrules' came w/ them.

What I like about them is their color. The current repro's, great that something that is available, but it doesn't come close to the original. Even if you can not do them w/ the BOSCH inscription I still would be interested in an EURO set.

My repros I bought from Stoddard six months ago did not have the Bosch logo, but were made from a similar mold (you can just make out the flashing where the Bosch logo was removed from the mold).

There are some differences in terms of fit (the plastic tabs are shaped slightly differently and will need to be filed before they fit) and finish (repro are orange-dyed clear plastic -- not orange plastic).

As a FYI for Eric, the '04 lenses fit w/o any adjusting.

Early 2000's about the same time as Richard when they first hit the market I purchased repro swb Euro versions they did have the Bosch logo. Subsequent orders no mas logo.

    Thanks for all the information.

I was asking as I came across a set of repro assemblies that I had bought, that had been redone by our old friend SWBSAM.

I had heard all the words about the incorrect orange color and non Bosch logo in recent posts (within the last year), so I was curious about what I had as they had Bosch logo's and the orange coloration appeared to be very well done.

Now it seems clear that they did an early run with Bosch logo's and better execution of the orange coloration.

Too bad they couldn't have continued with the correct orange coloration even if they had to "lose" the Bosch logo.

No, I have no intention of doing these. I do believe that Marek will be offering an "exchange only" situation in the next few months of a "better than current offering" lenses.

    Thanks!!

The ones available here in Germany look awful. It is a clear lens painted from the backside. You can tell from 50 meters that they are repros because of the artifical color. The original ones seem to be dyed plastic. In about 4 weeks time a new type of SWB repro lenses should be available here. I will report then if they made a progress.
