    Right Side Mirror

I have recently acquired a '73 S, I would like to install a right mirror... was that an option when new and will I be drummed out of the forum if I install one? Autofair

It was an option when new (had to be because of RHD variants). The thing is, the 'large Durant' was used as the right side mirror. There was never a '72/73 rectangular right side mirror.

Now for the good news: the Durant and '72/73 use the exact same mounting hole spacing. So you can install a repro (there are very good ones now) right side rectangular mirror -- early or later -- and swap back to Durants if you hear drums approaching. Durants are not 'handed.' E.g., they can work on either side.

Just remember that the mounting location is not the same on the right hand door. Otherwise you won't be able to see it properly.
The Durants IMHO are a better mirror as they are not prone to getting blown out of position when passing big rigs.

The top photo shows the correct location for the right side mirror. The lower photo shows the mirror in the same position as the LHD driver's mirror. The window frame will block a large part of the mirror.

We have perfect reproductions of what could have been the right side 1973 mirror (retangle shaped) or the round durants too. www.aasesales.com or direct to the mirror at http://www.aasesales.com/collections.../id-num-101758
