    914-6 . . .

    . . . on The Samba . . .

. . . If you are looking for a beautiful, original numbered 914/6 that is also a great driver, this is the “6” for you. Many correctly done driving upgrades done in my 914 specialty restoration shop. This car has the power, handling and upgraded shifter that should have been original equipment in 1970. It is a blast to drive!

1970 914/6 VIN 9140431598 engine number 645036. Porsche Certificate of Authenticity match these numbers. 72,700 miles. Engine completely rebuilt in my shop at 68,904 miles. Compression and leak down excellent. No oil drips. Transaxle rebuilt. Completely disassembled for a high quality repaint of the original color.
Engine case sent to Competition Engineering. Machined for late oil pump, all oiling updates completed, align bore, case saver thread inserts.
Engine built to 2.2 (85X66mm) 9.5 to 1 compression ratio. 911 E cams. Carerra chain tensioners, Turbo valve covers modified to fit 914/6.
Transaxle rebuilt, resealed with “tall” (ZD) 5th gear. Shift linkage converted to late 914 sideshift.
Recent clutch kit, new flywheel and Bosch starter.
Chassis restoration completed in 2007, no previous evidence of crash damage. Nice, straight chassis. Paint quality and preparation is excellent. Completely disassembled except for wiring harness. No amateur overspray on anything! Repainted in the original silver color. Most all new OEM trim and rubber parts.
Except for noted tools, all the rare 914/6 parts are here and original. Original owners manual and decades of service receipts.
Factory sway bars (from 73 914) added front and rear.
Overall the car is in excellent condition. I would call it in the top 5% of all original 914/6 cars.
There are flaws, probably fewer than similar priced 914/6 but better described with my 40 years experience with these cars.
Right rear corner of the floor, under the fixed passenger seat is starting to show rust damage.
Right rear suspension console and battery tray have been replaced due to previous rust damage. Some evidence of previous repairs in the areas surrounding.
24” long dent in the center tunnel area of the floor. Causing no problems.
Weber carburetors have worn throttle shafts.
Dash top is a nice later replacement modified for clearance at the glove box.
Steering wheel has an added leather wrap.
Windshield to top seal appears original, good but showing some ageing.
Door panels nice but not original style.
Newer replacement German Perlon carpet set. The footrest is original.
Drivers visor is a later replacement. Passenger side somewhat “deflated” from foam filler aging.
Small flaw in vinyl on lower dash near radio.
Both speaker grills have minor cracks.
A few small vinyl flaws on rear interior panel.
Drivers door pocket spring included but not installed.
Replacement Yokohama 205/60 14 tires showing wear on inside front indicating alignment needed.
Tool kit missing 2 original screwdrivers, pliers and 12/13mm open end wrench. Remainder of tools have been painted.
    Right mirror has been added.
Fresh air intake plastic box, front hood cable shroud and headlight surrounds have been painted.
There is some oil dampness on bottom of engine but no drips. Heat exchangers appear excellent except for some metal loss around 1 exhaust pipe.
Engine heat hoses have been replaced with black neoprene.
Right outer C.V. joint appears to be slinging grease.
Correct, original rear valance showing some heat damage bubbling.
    Fuel filter is aftermarket replacement.
Original air cleaner slightly deformed due to previous backfire.
Missing information stickers on engine lid and fuel expansion tank.
Replacement front and rear carpet. Missing insulation pad in rear trunk.
Torsion bars for engine lid weak.
    Replacement fasteners for 914/6 emblem.
    Repainted original jack.
The hardtop is from a later 914 and excellent. The original hardtop is also included.
Wheels look good with a few small flaws. Spare wheel has several nicks and scratches.
Small amount of pitting on either side of license plate on correct rear bumper.
Front bumper has a few small flaws.
Drivers mirror base has pits in chrome.
    Original windshield shows slight pitting.
    Replacement spare tire hold down.
Front trunk floor coated with heavy material but no evidence of previous rust through. Seam sealer partially removed.
Drivers door check strap worn and “clicks”
Speedometer bounces at low speed possibly needing a new cable.
Replacement brake hoses are for a later car. Mounted but not in original holders.
The engine rebuild and upgrades cost more than $15,000. The transaxle clutch and flywheel rebuild and upgrades were more than $2000. There is most likely not a 914/6 in this price range that has all the features this great driving car has.
    Many more photos available . . .

Looks pretty nice, certainly the presentation leaves few questions... will be interesting to see how long before it's sold.
