    67 Lite 911 R Tribute

The new Excellence (Dec. 2012) has a great article by Randy Wells telling the story of Terry English's outstanding 911 R Prototype tribute project based on a 67 912. The big deal with this story is that Terry did the car for $25k, and did much of the work and sourced parts on his own to keep the cost in line with his budget. There aren't many these days who complete this level of quality on their own, and the message from Randy's great 'telling of the story' is that "It's a perfect example of what can be done when you put your mind to it." As usual, Randy's photos are exceptional, and with the fading light just right, give a patina quality to the features that Terry built into his 1786 lb hot rod. This story will inspire others, as it should, and it also keeps the flame alive for early 911s (and 912s) as an inspirational platform to build
    an affordable 'dream project'.

Thanks for the heads up on the article Gib. For some reason I don't have my copy of Excellence yet.
I can agree that Terry's car is OUTSTANDING. Super (maybe even scary) light and all business. Absolutely love it and it's a real testament of what can be done with a little resourcefulness.
Here are a few pics I took of the car on Solvang this year. Not meant to try to one up Randy's excellent shots, just a little more for your consumption.

The car is very nice in person. Nicer than most real R restorations.
Terry is also a great guy and a joy to do business with. He knows what he wants and goes after it. I know some of his income involves detailing cars, so he knows what to pay attention to and has the skills to do it.
Like the painting, all hand rubbed laquer and details galore. I know he fell into some of the parts. You can't help but like him, so I see how people were willing to give up (not to say give away) some of their treasures to him.
He paid his dues building his other very nice Porsches and this one is the icing on the (his) cake.

Hey guys. Thanks for the kudos, but they all belong to Terry.

It was his vision and drive that brought this amazing car to completion.

The headlights are early Euro using clear U.S. glass lenses. Details reside with Terry. The shots were made at dawn patrol - very early Saturday morning during 2012 Treffen.
