    Carpet Help/Suggestions

I've seen several different ways people have installed their interior carpet. Some have glued to the body, some have used dynomat underneath and some have just laid the carpet in the car unglued.

What is the best and most desirable option in consideration for long term restoration quality?

    Thanks!

You'll have to glue it down in the compound curve areas, but it's up to you for the floor.

I ended up with putting down Dyna mat for the resonance and then a closed cell foam, then glued the carpet to that, in the rear section.

The longitudinals got glued down directly to the metal, as that was what the original was like.

With the floor, I ended up with Dyna mat sections, and I glued the foam to the carpet, then just a light spray to stop it sliding, but I can still remove it for access.

Is there any concern about removing the Dynamat at some point? As in future restoration? Is it reversible?

Dynamat will come off... some hard work with a scraper I suspect.

    Very boring.....
The problem is not the engine music, but the road/wheels noise.....

I found that FROST KING's SELF-STICK FOAM/FOIL DUCT INSULATION, believe it or not, works quite well.

I used it on a '51 Chevy pickup restoration and I am very pleased. It is fairly thin like Dynamat, conforms well and by using aluminum tape, it nicely keeps the meeting edges neat and held down. It definitely keeps the ambient sound down and effectively reduces harmonics.

It does require a clean surface that is slightly warm to adhere well. It isn't a replacement for Dynamat but its price/performance/value is excellent.

I think you'll find that straight carpet without any type of deadening, be it Dyna mat or other sound resonance material, would be akin to putting your head in a tin bucket, whilst getting someone to bang the outside with a wooden spoon.
