997 GT3 Rallye du Var Testing

I love these GT3 vids. Gilles Nantet testing for this weekend's event.

Robert Kubica will also be competing in a Citroen C4 WRC. He won the Rally di Como 2 weeks ago. Here's the 16-second highlight reel (note the old/wise guys are watching from behind large trees while the young fans take protection behind banner tape ) ...

Good to see Kubica back. That sequential shift in the GT3 rally car is slick.

Here's Romain Dumas prepping for Rally du Var (skip ahead to 1:11 for video):

The stage times today were sort of an eye-opener. Here we have a couple of race-prepped 997 GT3-RSs. Exceptionally fast cars by most standards. But they aren't even playing in the same ball park as the WRC-class cars. The 'WRC' cars at this rally are generally 2-3 year old versions run by privateers, not current factory state-of-art stuff. Nantet is 3+ minutes back after only 4 stages (this is a tarmac event).

Due to attrition, Dumas wound up in 2nd place overall! An S2000 car won (one class below WRC). Kubica crashed with a massive 5 minute lead. His co-driver called a Left 5 that was supposed to be a Left 3 and they went off at high speed. No injuries.

That's what I said. Nothing like using the corner of a house as your apex marker
