Delta MK 10 Wiring for Dummies

I could use some (a lot) help with my Delta Mark 10. FWIW; I have a 160+ I.Q. when it comes to pissing into the wind. Me and Electrons don't get along at all.

I don't need a wiring diagram. I need remedial assistance from a patient electrical person. A "Sally, Dick and Jane Diagram" would be great!

The car has a Petronix Ignitor on it that works fine. The Delta is in working order as well. (Just tested again by Loren at Systems Consulting).

    This much is true:

Red Wire from Delta to Ignition "Hot" lead
Red Wire from Pertronix to same "Hot" lead
Green Wire to Black Wire on Pertronix

The fun starts with the Ballast Resistor. I have a Grey Wire and a White Wire. There has been "no joy" with these in any configuration I've tried.

Last option is to drop in a brand new "yellow" '67 Distributor with points and forget all of this.

    Thanks in advance.

You can e-mail me direct. That would ease my embarrassment too.

The white wire connects to coil plus (15) the grey wire connects to coil - (1). No other wires connect to the coil. The ballast resistor is not used.

    Tom,

I, like you, don't "do" electricity. Ol' Ivory ('67 911S) has a Delta Mark 10B and the 002 yellow tag distributor. The 10b has a handy switch so that in case the CDI blows, you change back to the condenser. The PO had a Red Ball installed that wasn't working but I had the Mark 10B that did work. Both are the correct vintage.

It is my understanding that with the CDI, the current passing through the points is very small and therefore, they will last forever. You do need to make sure the cam lobe is greased and to check the dwell (and timing) now and then just in case you did forget.

What make and model of Skoda/Zhiguli/Moskvitch/Trabant is this for? I have learned to sweet-talk electrons into mostly cooperating but need to meet the patient before we operate.

Definitely the ballast resister must be eliminated. You need a full 12 volts with no voltage drop, even during cranking.

I have a Delta on my 67S with the Crane x700 points replacement unit. I am 2000 miles away from the car so I am going to be of little help, but I am fairly certain my ballast resistor is as factory. I did have a hell of a time getting the tach to work with this set up and had to find a bosch can that triggered tachs on the 69-70 model cars to get the stock tach to work.

I thought only dummies would still try and attempt to use one of those things.
    Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Say Tom, didn't I once send you the directions from the old Mark 10 instructions I still have? If not I can do so.

Ed; I still have mine but not here. If you can send a file/pdf that would be great.

I am overwhelmed by the responses from folks here on line and off who know these systems and have used them with success. I've also learned about some really interesting ignition
items in the "think tank" for our old cars. It's exciting even if I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Interesting in that the last link describes two ign. coils (4-stroke motorcycle, but same dif)
